5 Signs Your Training Gear is Holding You Back (And What to Do About It)Performance

Bad gear doesn't always look broken. Sometimes it just quietly limits your performance, increases your injury risk, and makes training harder than it needs to be — without you even realising it's the problem. Here are five signs your current gear is the obstacle between you and your next level.
1. Your gloves feel loose halfway through rounds. Wrist instability during bag work or sparring is one of the fastest routes to a wrist sprain. If your hook-and-loop strap isn't holding firm through combinations, your gloves aren't doing their job. Proper gloves should feel locked in at the wrist from round one to round ten. Our Venom Gloves feature a secure wrist closure system designed to maintain support throughout full training sessions.
2. Your shin guards rotate when you kick. Mid-round shin guard rotation is more than annoying — it's dangerous. If your guard is sitting on the side of your shin instead of the front when you throw a kick, it's not protecting the area it's supposed to. Properly fitted shin guards with dual velcro straps should stay centred through kicks, knees, and movement. Our Muay Thai Shin Guards are built with adjustable straps designed to lock and stay locked.
3. You're slipping on footwork drills. Footwork is the foundation of every combat sport. If your shoes are sliding on the mat during pivots, lateral steps, or angle cuts, your technique is being limited by your footwear — not your skill. Our High-Top Boxing Shoes feature a thin non-slip rubber outsole specifically designed for mat surfaces.
4. Your shorts are restricting your kicks. If you have to think about whether your shorts will let you throw a head kick, they're the wrong shorts. Fight wear should be invisible when you're moving. Our SOTF Muay Thai Shorts use 4-way stretch fabric so your range of motion is completely unrestricted.
5. You're losing steam before the workout ends. This one isn't always about gear — but it can be. If you're not fuelling your training correctly, even great equipment won't compensate. Scoreline's performance supplements including creatine and pre-workout are in the store for exactly this reason.
